The Story

So, Hamlet is a prince whose dad, the king, just died. But it gets worse—his dad’s ghost shows up and says, 'Hey, your uncle killed me!' So now Hamlet is stuck with revenge on his mind, but he can’t just go around killing people without proof. He starts acting crazy to figure things out, but that only makes everyone worry. Plus, he breaks up with his girlfriend, argues with his mom, and basically gives us some of the most famous speeches about life, death, and whether it’s worth it to keep going. Spoiler: it doesn’t end well for almost anyone.

Why You Should Read It

Honestly, this play is like a soap opera but deep. Hamlet isn’t just some hero—he’s a mess who overthinks everything. I love that he talks to himself (we all do), and we get to hear him debate stuff like "Should I fight back or just give up?" It makes you feel less alone in your own weird days. Plus, the characters are all broken in their own ways: the insecure queen mom, the clueless uncle/king, and the moody daughter. It’s basically a masterclass in why humans can be so dumb and awesome at the same time (with more daggers, sorry ~ less ghosts, fine the ghosts are pretty awesome). The language is old, yeah, but once you get the rhythm, it’s like poetry for your soul.

Final Verdict

If you like stories about revenge, family drama, and sneaky smiles when someone trips, you’ll love this. Perfect for anyone who’s ever felt lost or wanted a hero who doubts himself. Also, great for fans of tragic love stories (sorry, Ophelia). It’s short enough to binge in an evening, but you’ll be unpacking it forever. Find time, get cozy, and let the ghost of drama keep you up night.

It took me a while to process the complex ideas here, but the footnotes provide extra depth for those who want to dig deeper. A refreshing and intellectually stimulating read.
